You Can Do Hard Things
I have had an interest in the wellness field for quite some time. One of the investments I made into my journey was with a Peloton spin bike. In fact this week makes 4 years of consistent weekly classes whether that is a walk, mediation, strength or cycling class. I am really proud of that accomplishment. Keeping my body moving is one of my long term health goals.
Jess Sims is one of the instructors on the platform and her signature phrase is “You can do hard things.” Now generally she is watching you turn into a glazed donut when she says that, but I think the phrase is fitting for life in general. Over the years I have reminded myself of this mantra.
For me, anything that involves a computer and/or numbers is hard. It can be overwhelming to sit behind a computer all day. Figuring out my taxes….uggghh. It really requires me to sit down and focus where as I would rather be out with the people. However, life doesn’t work in absolutes . Therefore I must do hard things!
I usually will say this to myself to gear up for something I really don’t want to do. I’m looking at you taxes. During the process, I surely may stumble. I’ll inevitably make mistakes. I go back and double/triple check my work. I set a time limit for myself and then when it’s time for a break I repeat to myself “ I can do hard things”. Eventually I work my way through the project and when it’s all said and done I’m understandably excited!
Keep in mind the goal is progress and not perfection. I think that is what gets in my way sometimes, to be honest. It may take me a minute to work myself up to get going, but once I do I feel unstoppable and proud of myself. I have shared this mantra with my girls as well and we celebrate after we do hard things. I love seeing them get so excited when they realize they are capable of achieving what they set their minds to. So I share this with you all to remind you that YOU CAN DO HARD THINGS!
